Innovative Practitioners

From the powerpoint Bepen presented to my class there were several images and styles from artist that I really liked. The first artist is Askew1 a New Zealand street artist who has forwarded the movement to another level as we can see in these pictures;
The first thing I like about these two images is the size of them even though parts of them are very detailed,  the size of them make it clear to see even from a far. I also like the different styles not only between the two images but in the works themselves as they can be simplistic in some parts and outrageously detailed or obscured in others. The main reason for this type of artwork to be done on the "streets" is because of its heritage starting off as just guys getting their name out all be it illegally  and now the same principle is there only it is on a mass scale and sometimes done with permission, so when I see these massive bombings as a graffiti enthusiast I know that some people do not like them but to me its like a free art exhibit and the artists are continuously getting better and more accept in the communities. The only things that i would change about these two images is to see more of them and in front of me.















The second artist I found interesting that I have never heard of before is Jay Flow from JNJ CREW
I like these images of his because of the rugged look they have to them but they are very neatly presented. They also caught my eye with the use of colour, how the black which is prodomently used for the outlines and other key things emphasizes the bright wacky colours used for the fill. The use of text in these images helps give you a feel for what the picture is give as well as being apart of the artwork. These pieces of work are another great example of the evolution of graffiti art and how it is seen in the art world, from starting off in the streets to being done on canvases and being sold. If I were to change anything it would be the clarity of the images.


  

The final two images from an artist named Regan Tamanui are done with spray paint and stencils and are done in a way that to me is quite advanced compared to basic stencils where you cut out just one image an spray it onto a canvas and what Regan has done is multiple cutouts and has used different colours to make the image more alive and for has created a better portrait that i could normally paint which is why it grabbed my attention. The message behind the images for me is the fact that he has portrayed what could of been his ancestors which in there day the pictures would of been done with oil paint or a camera, and has used a modern technique and materials to produce a clear image of a person. Something that may of made these images better is to of  had more dominate lines.

   

Ray Frenden

Ray Frendon is a commercial illustrator which along side his incredible artwork attracted me to continue to read further. His blog has a simple layout so your not confused with other links or things happening around the outside of what your reading. I found his use of his blog was not just thoughts he had or just things he's done it was a good mix of videos of work and tutorials as well as a good variety of his work. He also has interviews both published and viral so you get a look of who he is and his view on matters both art related and world related, I found this helpful as he talks about his processes and different media whilst sharing his knowledge of art techniques and general advice to budding artist like myself. I like his style of work as I can see some of my own ideas and my creations in his work. His style is at times is like the old school comics but really smooth lines and his designs can be both realistic and insane, His process is usually starts with a simple sketch and then transferred to a computer where he works on a tablet with multiple programs like photoshop and illustrator. Another great thing about his blog is that it is attached to his website so you don't need to go looking on other sites or anything like that, Check out his his blog and artwork and be inspired.
